Academia has presented many opportunities to research, propose, write and work on grant-funded projects. These projects are collaborative efforts from undergraduate and graduates students, faculty, and staff at Michigan State University.
Putting Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) to Work in Communities: The Cube
Undergraduate student from MSU, Charlotte Bachelor, The Cube Director, Kate Birdsall and myself collaboratively wrote this three project proposal:
- Detroit Accessibility Project
- Holt Public Schools’ DEI Initiative
- Indigenous Game Development
All of these projects focus on accessibility, equity and inclusion to promote and produce open-access texts and resources.
During this process, my responsibility was primarily to research and draft budget lines related to the work Bachelor and Birdsall were proposing. By receiving funding, our team was able to maintain sustainability and promote experiential learning at The Cube by creating 14 job opportunities.
Creativity in the Time of COVID-19: Art as a Tool Combatting Inequity and Injustice
An interdisciplinary team of students and staff across MSU fields of study came together to collaboratively write this Mellon Foundation grant initiative called ‘Just Futures.’ This project is a $3.1M grant that creates three sustainability for students and staff at MSU.
Creativity in the Time of COVID-19 is a public submission project documenting and archiving how people around the globe turned toward creative activity during COVID-19. The final products result in a digital and physical collections showcasing these creative activities.
In the writing process, I was responsible for developmental and copy edits to the grant proposal and to provide close mentorship and consulting to the budget proposal.
Digital Translation Seed Grant
Co-authored with The Cube Director, Kate Birdsall, we proposed an international book project, Superheroes Die in the Summer, by Christain Baikian. By working with translator, Tamar Boyadijan, MSU English, the publication will be the third piece of text translated from Western Armenian to English.
Undergraduate Research Initiatives
I have authored five successfully funded micro grants ($2,000 each) to research, or mentor undergraduate researchers, on a research hypothesis that explores how different academic majors read and interpret stories differently.
